my emerald jewel - pic heavy
« on: September 12, 2013, 12:52:16 PM »
Rec'd the Rochester sequoia capture yesterday. I will need to change out some hardware (hinges, latches). Wheels are mismatched. Wood is in great shape. Lid is fantastic! Bowl has minor blemishes, but can be cleaned. I will be tapping some of you other sequoia owners for advice/pointers as I go thru this gem.

Looks like you have a good starting point!  I'm sure myself or some of the other Sequoia owners would be happy to help out.
That wood looks like its been refinished at some point with a nice stain or varnish.
Kettle collector AND cooker!

Wow, great pick up! Can't wait to see some finished photos.

I was thinking it had been redone too, but frankly I think that color and tone look terrific.  I have not seen this one in person yet, but I sure do not think I would touch that wood other than cleaning it.  Looks like it could go years and years before needing to be worked on.

Thanks, G$. K, Zavod44 makes covers for these. I think if the wood is in as good of a shape as G$ thinks it is, then a cover will help preserve it even better.

http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/trading-post/$75-avocado-sequoia-rochesterbuffalo-ny/

My in-laws (retired) live in Buffalo. I had my bride sic them on it. It gave them something different to do. I am in the transportation industry (another story), and had a truck leaving Buffalo on Saturday heading to PHX. I have no background on previous owner. It looks like a project putting it back together, cuz I want to do it right, and clean it up as I go. I just have a lot on my plate for the next little while, but I couldn't resist. There's the particulars. I see G$ has posted some pics from the link...I will update as I go, just not as frequent as you or I wish.

Not messing with anybody. G$ knows that this grail rode with Rascal Flatt's lighting, sound, stage, or whatever from Buffalo to PHX. Entertainment transportation.
