I've never put charcoal in the bin, I thought it made more sense to use the Kingsford containers and use the built in bin to store my grilling accessories (mitts, cleaning brush, towel, etc, etc, etc).

What do you use your bin for?

Back in the good old days, I could put my thermo, gloves, rotis motor, and etc. in the bottom of the bin, then slide an almost-full 13lb bag of Kingsford on top.

These days, all of my Kingsford bags are thrown out and Kingsford is only selling 20lb bags and I mostly use 34lb bags of lump anyway and my SS bin is usually mostly empty and I need to walk up the hill to the shed to get charcoal every time I cook.  Bummer.

The one on my deck, i usually have a partial, like Mike I have a walk if I don't. My other S/S it is for storage. My new build, it might be removed, as I would like the table a longer, so I am not sure the opening will be sufficient. Could put a longer tether on it and it might have some storage function.

Yeah, but it gets old having to empty the bin out every hour doesn't it?  ;)

I have mine full of charcoal and my chimney and a glove that I use to fill the chimney

I only have one performer but its full of charcoal, bags of hickory chips and my gloves. My deck isn't covered so it keeps my coals safe.
The gasser holds a bag of lump and hickory chunks under the lid.

Do you put the charcoal directly in the bin, or do you leave it in the bag it came in and put that in the bin?

Do you find any issues with moisture/mould on the charcoal if stored directly in the bin?

Straight in the bin for me.
My performer is an under cover area and normally has a cover on

I dump straight charcoal in mine as well. It's a SS version and hasn't ever gotten wet.

Not to steal the thread, but does anybody else have problems with the black plastic bin falling down through the frame of their SS Performer?   Mine ends up on the ground (falls right through) even when it's barely halfway filled.
Interested in ANY offset handle SJs you may have.

I store extra weber parts in my performer bin. but when projects are light I keep oil, matches, gloves, fire starters, lighter, etc in it.

No problems that I've noticed and some of the charcoal has been in there for a year or so , because I'm always trying different stuff , but I fired up some from the bottom of the bin the other night that had been sitting there for a while and it worked fine
