Nice pick up Golly.  Since you and Hogsy seem to be the resident kettle gasser experts, I have a question:

Did Weber ever make a gas kettle in a burnt orange color.  I ask because earlier this summer, I spied either a gas or electric 22" kettle that appeared to be a burnt orange in color; not the typical red.  It was in the middle of someone's yard about 125 feet from the roadway which leads me to believe its a gasser since it seems unlikely someone would run an extension cord every time they wanted to grill.  However, there was no LP tank.  I plan to swing by and get a pic (or inquire about a purchase) next time Im in the area.

It might be a Happy Cooker? My son's buddy has one in the color your describing, but I have yet to see it.

All of ours are from the late 70's / early 80's
As far as I'm aware they were only available in red, green, chocolate, blue and black
HC maybe, but a burnt orange weber gasser would be very cool
You gotta get some pics !!!
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

Could it have been a regular charcoal grill that was converted?

Golly, did that come of E-Prey in the last couple of days?
If it breathes, we can cook it!

By the way Golly, my question about it being a converted charcoal grill was not directed at yours, but rather the orange one that was spotted by G.
