Hi,
today I got a Red kettle (N: 1991)
On the pic it looked good but in live the kettle looks horrible.
I don't feel really happy with it but according to R-R-R I decided to give it a new home!
Will see what I can do.

I can't imagin what to do, to ruin a kettle like this!

Here some impressions:

Jan

That's not that bad. As long as the leg sockets are solid this will make a great cooker.

I've had a few grills just like that. It's caused by people that put 10-15 lbs of charcoal on the grate so they can cook 4-5 hamburgers. That also explains the charcoal grate that is rusted out so bad and melted down like they were using it as a black smiths forge. :-(
Still a great bad weather cooker !

Yup, that puppy has seen some heat. As mhiszem said, as long as the leg sockets are solid, you'll be fine. I don't think I've ever seen a coal grate that mangled! That can be replaced. Prolly gonna need new blades I'm guessing. As far as the bowl rust, clean it up the best you can. You can get it powder coated...
Multiple kettles and WSM's. I am not a collector, just a gatherer... and a sick bastard.

It's character
Love it, cook on it, sit back and watch it change colors while enjoying covered cooking the Weber way.
Seriously, it'll make a great cooker, enjoy!

All those rust spots are terrible, it's garbage. Send it to me and I'll recycle it for you.

That's a great cooker!

Now with restored handles.
Lid handle is self-engraved freehand. I think it's ok.

Now I am waiting for a new One-Touch ash sweeper. I was forced to drill out the rest of the old one.
Best regards,
Jan

Gorgeous red! I have an M code redhead whose ash sweeper seems rusted together and I can't get it apart to replace it with a new H sweep I have. Can you take a picture of the drill out? Did you just drill out the bolt or did you also have to drill some of the bowl?
