CGA Restoration
« on: November 20, 2017, 11:35:35 AM »
A lot of you have seen the CGA History article that I put together a little while back.  Well this is the grill and back story that peaked my curiosity about the CGA.

A while back I found an online auction with these pictures:

It was listed in the middle of nowhere and there were no agents in the area.  I knew shipping wouldn't be cheap so I wanted to figure out what it was before I took the risk. The two rivet handles and short legs let me know it was old, but I had no idea how old.  I started researching and found out it was between '79 and '81.  I won the grill, struggled to get it shipped, and finally this showed up at my door:

After a lot of cleanup the grill came out great.  The handles came out beautiful with a light sanding and tung oil.  The grill was heavily used and after some time with a razor scraper I finally broke down and used oven cleaner to get the inside clean.  The CGA has some corners that the razor just wouldn't touch.  So after all that, here she is.  I'm excited for the first cook.

Looks great, Neil!

I have a double-rivet "A" code CGA. It will fit with some manipulation.
