if you made an 18" version of a Cajun bandit charcoal ring you would not have the taper but could come to achieving the same result.

If you look at the plethora of Firebaskets for drum Smokers out there you'll realize that practically anything works
That also goes for the Vortex/ poortex/ char baskets etc

I don’t like the coals against the bowl which is why I prefer the SnS right now. If ABC wanted to make a SS snake ring that kept the coals off the side of the bowl and the ash contained after the cook that might be cool?

That would be awesome, but likely obviate the need for a SnS.  One can build a sear station without the SnS.  But, where it differentiates itself is its ability for long low & slow cooks.
