Maybe the last new Blue Wave SJG from a retailer.

So short story long.

I love the history and stories behind all of the grill finds in the WKC.

Here is the story behind this beautiful grill.   I really can't say it was one of my grails but now that I own one it is definitely my favorite. I just lucked into this one and the price was right - free.

Blue Wave Smokey Joe Premium Gold
Model 40796 AU 2012

After doing some research here it looks like this was a US offering but only as a reward item for Pampered Chef and possibly others back in 2012 - ?.   Notice I said others.

I work for a global distributor of Comm/Data, Security, Electrical and OEM products as an inside sales rep.  My company has a similar rewards/incentive program.  We earn points by completing mfg training modules, selling specific mfg's products and participating in other sales incentive programs.  You get to redeem your points at an online store for mostly merchandise and some gift cards.  My company's store currently features approx 550 different Weber items.   We are Chicago based so that may have something to do with the volume of Weber options.

I picked up a E310 back in 2013 and a MT in 2016. I have also picked up a couple 55" LCD's for the family over the years.  Echo weed wacker, dehumidifier, blue ray and some other smaller items.  I never gave much thought to most of the other Weber items on the site as I had not been bit hard by the Weber bug yet.

Fast forward to this spring when I found the WKC.   Everyone knows the story from there.   I have fallen down the rabbit hole

I love grilling but equally love the hunt and the restoring.   I recently cleaned up on some sales promos and found myself with enough points for a new 26" grill.   I have been wanting one for the past year but I had not had the points.  I saw lots of other cool stuff from Weber but I was debating on ordering that 26".  The day I was going to order I ran into a cool blue SJG when I was looking over all of the Weber stuff one last time.

I did some quick searches on the forum and saw several posts with dead picts which indicated this was a hard to find grill from 2012.  I figured I would try to get 7 of these with the points I had. Why not.   Keep one and offer the others up for sale to the club.   Not looking to get rich, just share the love.  $50 each and I could still purchase a new 26".

So I pulled the trigger.  Order submitted, confirmation email received and now the waiting on tracking.   2 days go by with nothing.  Strange, as most items ship next day and arrive in St. Louis with 1 day transit.  I reach out via email and checked on my order status.  Reply comes back that they have verified their stock and they only have 1 available grill to ship.  I was offered the other 6 in black but I declined.  2 days later this NIB, NOS box shows up.

Took me a couple days to actually get it out of the box and assemble it.

Wow!  What a cool color.  This is my 1st new colored kettle and I love it.  So far it is a looker.  Finally got it outside for a couple picts today.

I can't help but wonder if my company uses the same rewards partner that Pampered Chef did back in the day.  Possibly?  I do know that with electronics items they tend to offer last years models or overstocked items.  Could just be dumb luck and this company ended up with a 2012 Weber SJG.

I count myself as extremely lucky to get potentially the last one of these new Blue Wave SJG from the supplier.  For the past two weeks I have been checking the rewards site but still none available.  I will keep checking.

I snuck this and another recent SJ find into my master bedroom while my wife was out tonight.  She decorated in a beach theme earlier this year.  I think they look grate!  Think she will notice?

Very cool and congrats! That color is great. Nice of you to want to offer some to the club as well. Too bad it didn't work out.

Beautiful!  Keep me at the top of that wait list in case they find some others on the back of the shelf!  On a side note, @nolch01 really deserves this little bit of kettle karma!  He has unselfishly alerted many of the StL crew to a rare grill that he spotted first and easily could have snagged for himself.  Both @Travis snd I both have @nolch01 to thank for our Statesman.  This pick up couldn't have happened to a better fella!

AWESOME!  Love the story.  When I read  the title, I started thinking about all the little  hardware stores in the city that I was going to have to visit,  just to see if they had a new one sitting around to swap out with the used one I found this week.  After reading the story, I don't think I'll bother.

That is beautiful— I would have thrown $50 at you to get one.

I'd be more than willing to give you 50 bucks for it.... you did want to offer it to the club afterall. LOL.

All joking aside... That is a wonderful score. Now you have gone down the rabbit hole.

Congratulations, it's very nice.  I'm a tiny bit jealous because the used one I bought has a chip in the porcelain, but I really can't be too jealous because I scored an unusual color & it was fairly cheap (and about 2 hours of my time, gas, & travel Monday).

On the upside, because of the chip, I can actually use mine for cooking.  If I had yours, she'd stay a virgin.

Probably a coincidence, but he used to be a sales guy, but in California and I didn't ask where he worked.  Sounded like he lives with his girlfriend, so she might have gotten it from Pampered Chef or he may have picked it up from someone flipping it in Cali.  He moved back to IL & basically works for a friend who has some clothing labels and he works late at night communicating with China all the time.

@nolch01 My company must use the same pool of weber inventory. I saw this on my rewards site a while back and almost bought it. I just checked and it is no longer on there. Congrats!

I wonder if the rewards place that both your companies used winds up making deals with manufacturers, distributors & maybe others for "surplus" inventory or whatever.
