Weber CS help
« on: August 03, 2017, 05:47:21 PM »
Anyone ever had CS tell you something is not covered because
It was bought assembled, I.e. a floor model?

Bought a NOS 18 OTG 2006 DR code from a dealer.
They found it in their warehouse in the box.
Assembled it, put it on the floor at a deep discount.
$50.  Bought it 2 weeks ago and the lid hook
popped off while hanging the hot lid on the side
of the grill.  She says they don't cover "floor models"
cause they dont know how they have been treated.
This friggin hook has rust on the weld.  The dealer
told me it had only been together for 10 days.
Weber says sorry.  They want like $65 for a taco lid
and handle.
What gives?

Think you got an uneducated rep. Floor model should be covered, but you're one year past Weber's 10yr. warranty.

Obviously looking for a Glen Blue (who isn’t?😂).

Looking for anything Happy Cooker, including any re-branded as Montgomery Ward.  I’ve amassed a nice collection, but I’m missing a few still.  Let me know if you can help a fella out🤞

Actually, 10 yr warranty starts at date of purchase. They use the vent code if they don't have proof of purchase.
Also, it is true that deeply discounted demo models are sold without warranty. They have a minimum purchase price, and if you pay less than it you *technically* won't have a warranty. I learned all of this when I bought a floor model fireplace. IIRC, I could only get a modest discount, about 10%, and still retain the warranty, which was important because the lid had been damaged.

Kinda figured something like that.
Actually makes sense.
Wasn't looking for a freebie really
but once I found out it would be a taco
I said no thanks.
She also knew nothing about
stainless 22 grates or slide asides.

Guess I'm just going to have use exact
part numbers from now on.

In spite of the rules, I would call back and try with another rep. You've got two strikes because the 11 yr date code and the deep discount. Either one of those, but not both and you're good to go with a warranty lid.
Given the situation, that Weber got their money from the dealer years ago and you negotiated a good deal recently, I would be inclined to call back and tell them the following:
you purchased it recently, within the past year, as NOS, and name the store. Then say you don't have a receipt to provide (if it isn't too late). Offer to send photos showing its like new, but with an obvious flaw, and request a replacement. I bet you get it, and frankly, I think you deserve it more than a lot of ppl. You bought that kettle new, and it had a defect. They should make it right, regardless of the deal you negotiated.
Also, there's a chance they have a non-taco 18 sitting around. I'd ask. If not, you might check the parts companies like ereplacementparts.com, but of course you'll have to pay.

Thank you so much.
Never had a charcoal grill with SS
Until I bought ghe 26 at the same time as the 18.
An AH 2016 NOS for $199.
Man, I'm lovin' those SS grates.
Our E470 Summit has them also
but they really make a difference on charcoal.
(now I gotta start rolling my change again)
I figure rather than trying to reattach the lid hook
which I hate anyway, I'd just get a slide aside.
Much safer as well.

You might look into the Killa Grilla SS grates.  The rods are about the size of your E470 SS grate rods. Twice the size thickness of the Weber SS one and same price. I have two and love them.  Here is a thread with comparison photos.

The 21.5" is the size you want for your 22.5" kettle.

@Cellar2ful, you know, I knew about those and
we were in Nashville 6 weeks ago and I just
never found the time to head South and
pick up a couple.  Would have saved big
on shipping and been able to meet the folks
at Grilla.
Looking back we actually ended up just up the road
from them but it was well after business hours.
