I just got home a short while ago. I'm not quite sure how to attach pics here (I don't have anywhere to host the pics and I don't see an option to upload/attach when in the full reply vs quick reply).

I think it is a 1977 model...

Thanks! I've been going through some of the restoration tips in this site.. I'm in the process now of completely disassembling the grill and I'm going to clean the kettle, legs, triangle, etc up this weekend.

I should take a better pic of the view, we have a river about 75 feet from the house and all the woods back there on the other side is a flood plain so they'll never build there.

My deck is way overdue for staining.. it looks terrible right now. We tried that arborcoat stuff and it all peeled up within a year so I'd like to get something better. I'm gonna try to get that done in the fall.. ran out of time in the spring as work kept me busy on weekends (IT work)

I spent some time in new Jersey when I went to BMW school in Upper Saddle River. I stayed in wanaque and worked at BMW of Morristown. I really enjoyed my time up there.

Revel in it. I personally like the smoke. Let's the neighbors know I'm back there kickin ass. Every once in a while I catch a lighter fluid scent on the wind from some newb behind my house. I silently mock him and feel sorry for his family at the same time.

It's good you are upgrading to a chimney. If you use 3 lighter cubes kinda staggered out the chimney will be lit really fast. The smoke production will still be awesome but it will be a shorter duration

Let 'em know that Kettle Man is back in action !

I use a newspaper sheet torn down the middle.
Turn the chimney upside-down.
"Rope" each newspaper half and stuff them around the bottom of the chimney.
Turn chimney right side up and add briqs.

Pro Tip :
Squirt some rubbing alcohol on the briqs and torch it off !
Really not that smokey, IMHO.

I did a little cleaning on Saturday on my 1977 22.5" (warning pic heavy). It cleaned up quite nicely. The triangle definitely has some missing chrome (not sure what to do about that.. but I got the rust off). The inside of the bowl and lid cleaned up nice. The ash catcher and legs came out pretty good. The outside of the kettle.. well, some of it's faded and some of the markings on the top are permanent as whatever was on top kept the porcelain from fading! It's a cooker, not a looker (but it's looking better) (upcoming project - deck sanding / staining..)

I have been using the cubes more often lately, and really like them. (I need to replace my performer igniter...) One per chimney does the trick for me. FYI - they were clearance at WalMart recently; $2.00 a pack. Dirt cheap! Last time I lit a chimney my wife mentioned how good it smelled. No meat was on the grill yet - it was totally Pavlovian!
