Busy morning with an AWESOME rescue UPDATED PICS
« on: February 13, 2016, 09:44:21 AM »
Ok I know this isn't the WSM section but read on and you will understand. I've been toying with the idea of a stacker for my Performer,  Smoke Ez was high on the list, but last night I spotted a 22.5 WSM with Cajun Bandit door, charcoal ring, and probe grommet for a NICE price.
Sent the seller a text and got a reply quickly "price is firm, no holds, first come first served", so I started planning the quickest time I could get there. Somewhere in the text conversation, I mentioned I have an addiction to Webers and he said "I've got an old Weber, been in the family since the 60's..pretty rough but you may like it as a project.....hmmmm.
Then he said "I bought a new bottom grate for it a couple years back..cost me $100 so when the leg sockets broke loose i decided I'd park it behind the shed and think on it, but IF you are the one to buy the WSM, I'll throw in the other grill free....then it hit me...could it be??.. $100 charcoal grate..must be....
And he confirmed it with a picture.
Let me cut to the chase..6:00 am roadtrip ..here is the WSM...cleaned up..no before pics but

And here is the bonus. Not all original, painted, leg sockets detached, but according to the owner, who got it from his dad...it is a "1960s" ........RANCH KETTLE!
Gonna be a project for sure, but it can, and will cook again!

And now I  drink the celebratory Beer and just smile.
Thanks to all in this club for leading me to an amazing hobby.

You are a lucky duck! The wsm is ready to rock and roll and I can't wait to see what you do with the rk. Mount it in a modern frame, perhaps?

Unfortunately,  it seems as though the porcelain (outside  only) was sanded off before paint was applied. Seller gave me a can of high heat paint. After i get it standing and the inside cleaned, I plan on spraying the paint through my spray gun and then clear coating,  if I can find high heat clear. Both grates will be ok, bottom is newer, top is good enough to clean and restore.....may be a while before I start, but it will cook again! Thanks for all the feedback, I'm still ecstatic with this score!
