My Joe has legs
« on: January 15, 2016, 11:49:21 AM »
So one of my personal gifts to myself for Christmas is a Party Q automatic temp control unit.  The adapter that I purchased with it is the one for my Kamado, after a couple of cooks I decided to get an adapter for my Webers.

This adapter works perfectly with the daisy wheel webers, WSM and Smokey Joe gold kettles.

I wanted to use it on my home made WSM but only have a SJS which would require drilling.

Matt graciously donated a SJG that did not include legs or vents, what a guy.

I found a post on the bullet site where a guy made legs from 1/8 X 1 X 48 aluminum stock.

It took some learning and some heat with a torch but I am really happy with the results, very stable setup.

Here are a few pics

the other side

oh and if you do not have an auto temp control unit?  get one.

maybe some food pics later........Ribs today

The legs and the ribs look great.

How did you keep them so uniform? They look really nice.

I used this as a template
http://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?39585-Smokey-Joe-Legs

the legs are really close to each other but not a perfect match, Aluminum breaks if it is not bent with a little heat from a torch.  I had to do some trimming and tweaks to get them to be even and for them to stay under the lip on the bowl rim.

Great job LB! That's an awesome setup you've got now. It's a set-and-forget rib machine 8)
