Harris - simply awesome!.

I was going though the pictures from Pig and Peaches - the one of both customs in front of the Weber history is poster material!

Congrats on a great kettle.

I sure do love those customs...it's a beauty!

Thanks Harris , maybe I'm just chasing my tail here , but do we know approximately when they changed the location of the lid hook ?
@Craig @ George Stephen ? :)

The lid hook was moved to its present location   (under the vent) when the lid handle was repositioned towards the lid vent. About 1962-63.

This one was found at an estate sale in Oklahoma City a few years ago by a guy who owns an "atomic retro" shop.  The grill was on display in his shop.  Here is a picture of the grill on display.

In talking with a former 1950s employee , he described what he called
" experiments " he specifically mentioned a black grill with fire hydrant yellow spiderwebs and a white grill with black spider webs. There are a few examples of the yellow and black and one known example of the white and black style.  I think it's safe to guess that the yellow and black made it to production because we have several examples and it's featured on the Weber timeline. The white and black is a mystery at this point because it was just discovered and is unmarked . The spider webbing appears to be drizzled on by hand during the porcelain process and is likely why they were called customs ( customized ) no 2 are the same :)

WTB Color Copies of old Weber Catalogs

@Idahawk @reillyranch

Yep, you are right.  At the Pig and Peaches, Ed explained to me how the individual would drizzle the webbing on by hand and no two are alike.  We put his 18.5" and my 22.5" side by side.  The webbing is completely different in coverage and pattern.  :)

Oh, okay this is what I was wondering about. How awesome, and how it makes a custom that much more desirable. True pieces of kettle history.

WNC

Oh yeah, forgot to say thanks for the info guys!

Best kettle out there right now... IMO. I like Matt's White custom but the pop of the yellow seals the deal for me on this on. Really nice piece to the collection.

I really like this kettle too but have to call it out, 1 or 2 posts would have been enough,  seems as if this guy is riddled everywhere on this site lately.  Sorry, Harris if this is a little dirty laundry but dude, less is more sometimes.......
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

I'd like to point out that I did ask Harris to post this into a dedicated thread rather than trickling photos throughout other miscellaneous threads.
Harris has done just that and we're working on getting the grill to the front page :)
