Katz deli new York. (I read it somewhere katz is the oldest bbq place in the country.) I'm not sure how they got to that but pastrami is brisket so maybe that's where they got the connection. Either way...pretty Damn good.
Juniors cheese cake. New York
bagels...anywhere in new york
at Chelsea station there's a bakery that has these little bread sticks with ham in them. Sooo good.

Houston-  https://www.kreuzmarket.com/ Best BBQ I've had in the states.  About a 90 minute drive from Houston, but a religious experience.

KC- I second Arthur Bryants, you can skip Gates. http://www.jackstackbbq.com/ is a nice upscale bbq place.

NYC- Too many to list, but ABC Kitchen is a favorite.
Looking for a lime or imperial blue...in my dreams.

Uncle JJ

Ken - I'm no help to you in the chosen cities, but you're getting some great advice here!

If your travels bring you through Atlanta, let me know.  You're welcome to crash at my house for as many days as you like!

Omaha is just 3 hours from KC...

Hey Craig, so you going to pop over to KC then? :)

Maybe. My dad lives down there now. But I won't be down there until August.

I'm a born and bred Boston guy (just south of the city now) and lived in NYC for 5 years.  Lots of good suggestions already.  In NYC, I always liked Peter Luger's steakhouse-very old school experience, cash only.  In Boston, Gummi/Laurence gave plenty of good suggestions.  I'll only add one of my favorites, which is the original Pizzeria Regina in the North End.  The North End itself is a great place to walk through and see all of the restaurants (Modern over Mike's for the pastries though).  Beantown Pub is a good place to people watch and have a pint or several.  I work a few blocks away from there so let me know when you are going to make that stop on your adventures.

You could probably fund some of your trip filling your checked bag with Aussie only Weber products and accessories and selling them here!

I had kreuz market in college station..wasn't impressed. Very salty. That store is not the original store and I have never been to the other one. Can't comment on that
