Updating progress to date:  finished new set of handles (white oak); replaced front leg and end cap; awaiting arrival of Grillmark grate and ash catcher.  Now to break out the 0000 and razor scraper.

Done scraping and scrubbing for now...still waiting for ash catcher and cooking grate . 
One question for the restoration pros, the last photo shows a bullseye chip larger than a silver dollar just below the front handle.  Would high temperature stove paint be a recommended measure?  The grill will reside on a covered patio in arid Boise.

Agree with 604. Hit the chip with some Pam and start cooking. There is probably a story to the chip, gives it character.

Thanks for all the compliments and suggestions.  Ash catcher arrived today!  Will update photos once cooking grate arrives.

When I was installing the ash catcher, noticed that the spring clips were weak and rusting.  Quick call to Weber CS, explained what I was working on and now they are on their way free of charge!  Gotta love the way Weber stands behind its products and its customer base.  Currently working on a design for some standoffs that would permit the use of either Craycort or current issue Weber cooking grate.
