Last week I looked to the WKC to find out if I could take an 18" ash container assembly from an old OTG and put it on a newer OTS that I was scoping out on Craigslist. Basically I wanted to make an 18" OTG. So I picked up the 18" OTS cheap, cleaned it up a bit and installed the ash bucket. If fit just like it was made for it.
I also drilled a hole in the lid and added the thermometer off my 26" kettle.
So what about my 26" kettle's thermometer you ask? Well I had an extra Summit thermometer which just seemed so much more appropiate for this beast.
It just fit right in to the existing hole. I didn't want to do any drilling to this guy. By the way, regarding the "Gas or Charcoal handle". Don't worry, there is no confusion here. The front handle says "Charcoal Damn It!".
So now I've got my new 18" OTG to keep my old 18" 1970/71 3-wheeler company and the slightly modded 26" when I need the real estate. Thus the title, "Big Daddy and the Boys".
What's funny is that at this time I don't even own a 22". I'm reserving that spot in the hopes I actually find something cool at some point (redhead, brownie, cado, etc.). But here in Iowa, that just seems so unlikely.
I've got some of Brian's wood handles on the way for the new OTG, as well as a couple of other grills. I'll post more pics after they arrive.
