SS Performer Bowl & Lid Question

I took up the generous offer for a free SS Performer that "lemisfits" posted a few days ago, thanks Steve! I have completely disassembled everything and am giving it a really good cleaning. I am very happy with the overall condition of the cart, but the bowl and lid don't do the cart justice.

This one has the gas assist, but is missing the propane tank. (I don't necessarily need this feature.)

My question is, can I use the bowl and lid from any year, or style, Performer?

I'm hoping to find an "affordable" replacement and get this SS Performer back in action ASAP!

Oh, I will post some pics after I get it put back together.

Troy

Yes, you can use kettle from any year performer or platinum.

If you find a replacement, I'd be happy to take the old bowl and lid off your hands.

You bet! I was planning on putting them back up for grabs, as soon as I find replacements.

Troy

If anyone else wants or needs, let them have. :)

JB, make sure Troy signs a waiver, that it will not become a flower pot. ;)

Troy

It's not going to be a flower pot.

It's going to be a tomato pot. Self watering or hydroponic at that! :P

Hey Jason, as others have pointed out any bowl will fit on the cart BUT if you want to retain the gas assist (highly recommend) then you need to make sure the new kettle has the igniter assembly hole in the bowl portion of the kettle.

GL and nice job tearing it down for an overhaul!

I currently have a Performer, with gas assist, that I use almost daily. If I find a decent kettle, without gas assist, I will be ok with that.

Troy

You can always add gas assist. There's a tutorial somewhere. I'm walking and using my phone to type this, otherwise I'd give you the link.

Jason

I remember reading that post, thanks for the reminder!

Don't walk into a fountain, or you will make it toYouTube.
If it breathes, we can cook it!

For those with gas assist, do you have trouble snuffing the coals for  re-use in later cooks?

On the first few cooks. After that it's all good.

You don't think the Performer with gas assist doesn't suck more air? It won't draft too well with the top vent closed, but I think its possible that the coals can smolder longer for a while?
Anyone ever tested this theory?

I don't care if you don't like my Avatar, its there for me..

Thats what I assumed AJ.  Definitely seems enough air gets in to let coals continue to burn longer than a totally closed environment.
