New to Weber Kettles, is this a good deal?

I have a 18.5" WSM and have used it as a "Little Black Egg" and really enjoy grilling with it as much as I do smoking.  I'm starting to turn away from my propane grill now and want everything cooked with charcoal so I've started looking for a Weber kettle.  I found this one locally, judging by the pictures it looks to be from 1969.  The price is good I think, I'm just curious if I'd be better off buying and cooking with this or saving up a little more and getting a Weber Gold.  Any thoughts on if this is worthy of cooking on or is it mainly a collectors piece now. 

Also, can anyone tell what size grill it is?  I haven't gotten to go look at it yet so I haven't measured and the owner didn't know.

It's a 22.5" Kettle and I'd grab that up in a second, of course I don't have a red-head (yet) what does he want for it ??

Not sure what he asking, but that is a very nice grill, snap it up. You won't be disappointed.

It looks to be in very nice condition. "Good deal" depends on the price. 

Buy it and begin the (never-ending) wonderful journey...also, scour Craigslist for a Gold, which are often available for 1/3-1/2 retail.

PS- to determine size, check the lid vent position. If it is mounted "outside" the lid handle, i.e. at the handle end, it's a 22.5. If mounted "inside" the handle ends, it's an 18.5.

That's a cooker for sure.. But if you want something modern, look for a used 22 Gold or a Performer on Craigslist. Or spring for new if that's what you like. Most any kettle can be brought back to life.
That one looks like it needs a bit of work. Vents look loose. The actual date is not necessarily from 1969. The seller is guessing unless they know the history.
And while it is a collectible, its not super valuable.  So, go with your gut and get aKettle. You won't be disappointed.

$40 is good for that grill and condition.. If the bottom vents are too loose, you may be challenged to control temps. Not important unless you plan to use it for low and slow.
You will use more charcoal too.

Well you might be right! but 40 bucks is still a great deal for that one imho.
