Heyjude

I don't care if you don't like my Avatar, its there for me..

Thanks all for the complements.  Mrs. Winz walked out on the deck and said "that looks nice".  First time I have ever received a grill complement from her.  I think Bisbee is headed the right direction.

QuoteCan you do the ash ring?

Troy - Hmmm, now you got me thinking.  That would be pretty cool.

QuoteI saw this and yelled "WTF ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?" when i saw the pics

Yep, that was the reaction I was going for  :)

QuoteNow that's what I've been waiting for!!!!  Awesome just awesome Winz. Thank you for doing this.

Ted - I remember your post - it got me thinking about this in the first place.  Thanks for the challenge.

QuoteWinz, Thermapen needs to do a special, very special, very, very limited edition, special, extra fabulous, limited, fabulous edition Thermapen......just for YOU !!!!!

Thanks buckie, but I would just settle for the "buy 8 get one free" special - they owe me one  :)  I do have a piece of copper left over - perhaps a copper plated thermopen.  Need to think about that one.

Oh man, that's gorgeous.  I can't wait to see what it looks like when it starts to patina.

Excellent work !

I f you decide that you want a polished look, a clear coat might help hold the luster.
A product called Sharkhide is very popular out here for protecting metals on boats...might work for this application.

I saw this and yelled "WTF ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?" when i saw the pics. This is awesome! Steampunk for sure.

Pretty much the same reaction here as well.  Absolutely amazing.

I vote for the copper ash-ring as well, and maybe some copper bolts to hold the bowl to the frame?   (I don't even know if they make copper bolts, hence the question-mark)

Again, job well done!

I do like the copper ash ring look - thanks for the ideas:

Just high temp paint for now.

Looking into the process of making a custom ash ring.  The possibilities are endless: custom designs, alternative attachment to the kettle, different ash pan sizes, etc.  Pretty straight forward except I would likely need to go to a machinist to have them form the cylinder using a roll bender.
