A Genesis Begins Again
« on: November 24, 2013, 10:31:18 AM »
I used to work/live as an on-site Caretaker of a home/property, and used the homeowner's red Genesis for 3 years or so.  More than the homeowners in fact, which might be why they offered it to me when they upgraded.  I can't say 'no' to free.

Several years later and with the help of all of y'all, she's back in her glory.  Special thanks to my buddy Bman for the specific restoration and paint recommendations, and to Jeff for the miraculous find of the Durawood tables at a hardware store in Spooner, WI.  I can't say 'no' to $3, either.

After much deliberation, I decided that the first cook should be kinda old-school:  chuck eyes.  There is only one butcher in my area who still takes the time to rescue these tasty wonders from the meat grinder, and he pointed me to four of them last time I stopped by his supermarket.  He's retiring in the spring, right before his whole grocery chain converts to pre-packaged meats.  All of his associates will hang up their knives and become cashiers...  what a loss!

I reverse-seared these beauties, and pulled them off right when they got to 125.  Chuck-chewy, and chuck-delicious.

Sliced, plated, and served two ways.  With sides of charcoal-roasted butternut squash and steamed green beans.

One of the charcoal people.

Good looking food on a great looking grill. I like the CI grates as well.

I found one of those dura-wood panels by the side of the road on a morning run. I'm guessing I missed a freebie there or <choke> one went to the dump. :(
kettles, smokers...
