Need Help with Box Sourcing!
« on: October 02, 2013, 08:42:49 AM »
So, I know the Home Depot boxes work great for a 22" kettle, but what works good for for a Weber Firepit?  The problem being that the diameter of the firepit is 28" and the largest box I can find is 24.  Did a quick check at a Uhaul store too, with no luck.

Any ideas??  Anyone in the Chicago area have a box that may work?

Thanks for any ideas....

Thinking out loud, but how about an appliance box? A washer or dryer box could be cut down, and should be about the right size. Do appliances even come in boxes anymore? Wonder if HD or BestBuy etc would have some around for the asking?

How deep? You could try a HDTV box. Or a bicycle box from the local bike store.

Thanks for these ideas. The depth is only 8". These are actual dimensions so it will have to be a little larger.

I would send you a box but mine came already assembled. You could try asking some of the WKC members that recently found one.

I'm with Marty, try your local appliance store, they normally have a recycling bin out the back that you can rummage through and find one you can cut down
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

Call a local auto dealership or body shop.  Talk with shipping people.  Tell them what size you need and ask if they will hold on for one for you.  Offer a cold 6 pack of favorite brand.  Im sure they will hook you up.

Call around to furnature stores.  A while ago I was on the search for some styrofoam.  Found a post on craigslist for free from a place near me that had a huge bin full.  They didnt feel right about dumping all that into the landfill so they just hold on to it and give it away to people for art projects or packing.  They also had an equally large stockpile of cardboard for table tops and chairs and whatever.  Said I could take as much as I wanted.  Its funny how much styrofoam a MINI can hold.

cheers...hope that helps a bit.

I checked FedEx stock online and it looked like they were too small. I will stop in a store though. Looks like tomorrow will be FedEx/UPS and/or appliance stores....

It is a challenge that must be conquered!  :)
