Awesome tool I discovered...
« on: August 26, 2012, 07:57:32 AM »
You know those shepherds hooks for hanging baskets in your yard?  I found a much better use for them.  I always use this to hang my grates on, but I found another use as well.  I needed an inclimate weather cover for my smoker this morning.  I was doing a pork shoulder and it was supposed to rain so I had to figure out something.  Well my trusted hook and a few hose clamps did the trick.

I bet that corn rack would also work well as an upper shelf.

Nice trick with the hook, but what's with the Smokey Joe without a handle in the foreground?  I know this guy who makes great handles, maybe he could make you a good deal on one.

The bottom has a little metal angle on it, it sticks in the ground for stabilization.  You get them at Home depot or Menards.  As for the Jumbo smarty pants,  it's a resto project.  I actually took off the handle, I just need to get some time to work on it.  That's the one I was gonna sell once I fixed it up.

Looking forward to seeing that finished Jumbo!  And Brian, my heart skips a beat when I look at that corn rack.  It would be a dream to find one someday.  Congratulations!

i take about 12 or 15 inches of aluminum foil, squeeze part of it over the handle so the rest hangs over the vent.

while i don't WANT rain hitting the sides and top of my smoker, i don't really mind it unless it's towards the end of my smoke (when i don't want to add more lit fuel)
