a question(s) about the rotisserie.
« on: July 31, 2013, 10:31:38 AM »
i saw one at ACE hardware..i was running by with an armload of canning jars.  stuff was on the stove, and i had to go!!  no time to suss it out.

the motor is plugged into a socket?  and you can use that big ring (sleeve) without the rotisserie?  it would be awesome for standing up chickens (beer can stuff) and have the extra head space for the birds.  you could do several.

Yes Cliff, the motor gets plugged into a socket. I usually have to run an extension cord for mine, but it works well. I don't see why you couldn't use the roti ring for extra headspace for your cooks. The only issue you may have is that air will enter/escape through the roti holes. The roti itself tends to leak a bit but it shouldn't be too much of an issue, especially at higher temp cooks.

The cord is short and requires an extension unless:

I sure you could stand a few chicken on beer cans.   Or put 2 or 3 on the ROT.

Java is wise-- I doubt you'll be doing many more beer butt chickens once you have a roti setup.  ;-)

How tall is the ring? About 8 inches?

Give a look athe Cajun Bandit ring. If you don't want to Roto, they also sell a "Stacker"
Both seal a lot better than the Weber ring.

I have used the rotisserie ring to make space to do beer can turkeys. Works just fine. Block the openings with foil. Using it as a rotisserie work pretty well also.  8)

I have a rotisserie from a gas grill that I never use. It looks very simple to make my own ring. Just didn't know how high to cut it.

You can make the ring as high as you like.. Sorry, I don't have specs handy. If you are using a stock metal size, like say 12 inches, all the better. No cutting involved.  8)

You can also buy just the ring from Cajun Bandit. I can't say for sure it works with the Weber motor.
