Thanks fellas....

Jeff - I use a 1/4 sheet palm sander to do most of the sanding work.  I hold the ash pan just over the edge of the work bench and rotate it as I 'sand' it.  Doesn't take much pressure and the pan is pretty rigid.  The ash ring is harder to hold the way, so I just hold it in my hands.  Left hand inside the ring & right hand on the sander.  Zero pressure applied to get it out of round.

The sander leaves swirl marks, but once you work through 400 grit sandpaper it's quite smooth.  Still has (smooth) swirl marks, but that's where the 0000 steel wool comes in.  Going in one direction, it only takes a few minutes with the steel wool to erase all the sander swirl marks and get this puppy shining.
I've always had gas...  And now a bunch of kettles because of this place.  Thanks!

Excellent! Gonna have to try that on mine. I have a random orbit sander that might help reduce swirl. I'll let you all know.

Wow that looks great.   I have 4 or 5 of the ash cans/rings. Not sure I am up for that much work.

Wow! Nice work on the ash can and ring. Is it hard to keep it looking like that?

I really like the red mist kettles.

Shit, I missed Ken's question about the dish.

Pretty simple, but pretty awesome for a work-night-all-in-one meal w/ leftovers.  :)

I start with a disposable Hefty Veggie pan w/ perforated bottom.  "Sprinkle" in 1-1.5 pounds of raw ground beef.  Season the beef w/ your favorites from the spice rack.  On top of the beef we dump a drained can of green beans & corn.  Wifey doesn't like onions/peppers/mushrooms, but I think they would be great as the next layer.  On top of that is basic tater tots.  Then a can of cream-of-whatever soup gets spread over the tater tots.  Toss on the grill indirect (300ish) for an hour or so with your choice of smoke wood.

Actually, wife is heading to the beach for a week with her family.  Pretty sure I'll add the onion/shroom/pepper and feast on this all week.  :)
