Does anyone have this Weber griddle insert and using it?

The Weber website hasn't had it available for months, but it is available from several websites including HomeDepot, ACE etc.

Seems like a decent unit, but I don't see much discussion on it.

I am curious at how good the air-flow is?
I have a Manturion griddle and it gets plenty.

I never heard of a Manturion Griddle, so of course I had to Google it.  I came across this earlier WKC forum post -

What a interesting accessory.  It seems like that would be a unicorn find.  I would love to have something like that.  So functional!

I purchased the Weber griddle offering for the 22" kettle a few weeks back and used it yesterday for the first time.  I mentioned in another thread that I cooked up a pack of bacon, so here are a couple of pictures.  It's definitely cooked!  No problem with air flow @MacEggs, as it got up to temp exactly as described in the instruction manual.  There'll be a learning curve, but I'm looking forward to the fun, the good food and the challenges that it'll bring.

Congrats on your new purchase. Griddling is a fun new way to cook on a weber kettle. I have been happy with the hunsaker griddle insert on my weber 26er. It is reasonably priced and works well.

Hi,

Thank you.  Definitely new and fun for me.  I didn't know that hunsaker had a griddle offering.  It looks like it should work just fine, and at an attractive price.  Have you used it much and if so, what have you cooked on it?

I've used it quite a bit for smash burgers, stir fry, eggs, bacon, sausage, grilled cheese, porkroll, and more. I scrape it clean, hit it with water and papertowel when hot, then give it a light coat of oil each time we finish cooking and it is ready to go for next time.

I forgot, cheesesteaks on the griddle are fantastic as well!

Thanks for the ideas of cooks and for cleaning.

On Sunday I cooked smash burgers for lunch.  Here's a picture of the patties.  The cooking process was very fast and unfamiliar, but I managed.  I realized that I didn't get any pictures of the final product because of the speed of things, and because we were all too excited to eat.  We devoured them, and they were very filling.

The smash burgers look great!  True, the process goes so much faster and I find I smell like a diner cook for the rest of the day.  Additionally there is spatter everywhere, but the process is fun and all worth it in the end.

Cheers

Agreed.  Will be more cautious next time.
