Jumbo joe to mini wsm
« on: March 28, 2013, 11:54:12 AM »
I am looking into getting a jumbo joe to take camping and also to use as a mini wsm.  Has anyone on here done this or have any pointers?  I saw on tvwbb that people had used regular sj's with some sort of pot that had the bottom cut out...

The Imusa 32 qt tamale pot fits a regular SJ. The Jumbo Joe is 18.5".

The Vasconia 32 quart tamale pot on Amazon is a perfect fit for a SJ Silver or Gold.
What vintage Jumbo Joe are you thinking about? Newest model? Older one?
I've got Webers. 10 - WSMs, 5 - 22.5" kettles, 2 - 18.5" kettle, 2 - SJS, 2 - SJP, 4 - WGA, 1 vintage Coolie Pan

Here's a guy who used a pro q stacker ( $58.00 shipped)  flipped upside down with the older Jumbo ( aka Platinum).

They say it fits very snug in the bottom.  Almost too tight.

I picked up a Jumbo recently at a thrift store for $10.00.  Been thinking about doing this too.

Anyone find an alternative to the Q Pro Stacker to make a mini with the new Jumbo Joe?

How about a 20 or 30 gallon steel drum, with the bottom and top cut out?  They have approximately 18.25" or 18.5" diameter.  I've built both a mini-wsm and a UDS.  Next might be a JJWSM ...
