I’ve driven hours to score a diamond in the rough only to pass….. this is the grail ……went like a bat out of hell southward through fog and Atlanta traffic south to pick this one from probably a crack addict that picked it it from a neighbor that put it out to the street…. My 18” yachtsman.  She’s a beaut and she’s home.

I’ve done a few 8 hour round trips for kettles.  Gotta have agents or a willingness to road trip sometimes.

What's the farthest that anyone has traveled/driven for a vintage kettle?  Also, did you purchase it or pass?

3,000 miles round trip. 36 hours straight driving before had to sleep. I was getting loonie and seeing things 🤣

And yes I bought. Guy held it for me for almost 2 months as I recall.

I saw this at an estate sale on Friday.  I think it dates back to 1977.  I couldn't find much online about  the color though, which is some form of gray.  The handle is wood and secured with what looks like two rivets.  The wheels are of the more recent design, black with the white whitewall that says Weber.  Can anyone shed some light on this?

I think it is black and weathered to a greyish. I had same grill and had same color. I don’t think Weber made gray in 70’s or at least that shade. Nice grill though!  Mine was a 77 and looks identical.

Agree with @Gringo weathered black from the 76-77 depending on the top vent.  Closeup of the top vent will tell.

I didn't take a picture of the vent, but I'm pretty sure it looked like this -

Would a 1977 model be considered vintage?  I guess so, as I got this response from Google -

Vintage items are typically between 20 and 100 years old, and are often defined by their quality materials and craftsmanship. The term "true vintage" refers to items that are at least 50 years old, and can include items from recent decades that have cultural or nostalgic significance. Vintage items are often nostalgic, and can be valuable if they are highly sought after and culturally significant.

‘76 I’d say.  Nice score!

I didn't get it, lol.  Not really the color I am looking for.  I have to be selective because I don't have room for a collection really, just for maybe one more kettle at the moment.  I'm planning on giving my 2011 Kettle and my Performer Grill to my kids when the time is right.  Once those are gone, I'll have more room.

How do you put a value on something like this?
Or does it just come down to whatever someone is willing to pay for it?
How did they figure it to be a 1975?
I thought Weber didn't start date-coding until 1979.
