How to score a vintage kettle?
« on: May 07, 2024, 10:15:02 AM »
Hi,

Where is everyone finding their vintage kettles?  Are you finding them on Facebook Marketplace and/or Craigslist?  Bidding for them on Ebay?  Online Finds in this forum?  Garage and/or Estate sales?

Just curious.

Thank you.

Craigslist, OfferUp, and of course other WKC members!

If you’re looking for something specific, try creating a Want To Buy (WTB) post. You may get lucky with another member thinning their herd or pointing you to a CL ad.

LOL I've used all of those. My favorite is a garage sale find, 'cause they're usually cheap. But sometimes there will be a WKC, FBMP or EBay ad that just makes you forget all about your preset limits. 😊

Experience and desire for the specific kettle. I have an earlier year and setup for 400 and won’t add the 400 shipping!!! Lol

How do you put a value on something like this?  Or does it just come down to whatever someone is willing to pay for it?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/266251098052?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20230823115209%26meid%3Dbe0f87094d5249b5903f5f189ff1e9aa%26pid%3D101800%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D266251098052%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2SignedOut%26brand%3DWeber&_trksid=p4375194.c101800.m5481&_trkparms=parentrq%3A5ed167ab18f0a8dae8092c11fffd5a32%7Cpageci%3Ae770837c-0e39-11ef-b198-46c741f2af41%7Ciid%3A1%7Cvlpname%3Avlp_homepage
I’d hold on that.  Got one just like it for $125 and picked it up locally.  It’s much like fishing really.  Gotta be in the right place at the right time and be ready to reel it in.  I’ve seen an ad when I woke up, responded and had it by noon or that evening.  Finding buy it now deals on eBay that are within a reasonable drive is another way.  Careful it can be addictive!

I might be interested if you have a 22" kettle in Red Mist.

What's the farthest that anyone has traveled/driven for a vintage kettle?  Also, did you purchase it or pass?

I’ve picked up kettles where I have driven 3 hours to get and the 3 hours back to home base. I have picked up kettles a far as 500 miles from me but I had a trip that passed through that location so my net distance was about 50 miles.

250+ miles each way. Had it purchased before I left and was very pleased. Also have picked a couple up a few blocks from home that were just at the curb.
