My Beachy 18 Came Home
« on: March 23, 2024, 03:13:58 PM »
5 years ago on a beach vacation with family (SGI of course) we rented a nice little house that happened to have a 22” Weber kettle for use.  When we arrived I of course checked out the grill and it was very neglected and weathered by the salty air.  The grates were rusted through and the ash sweep non functional.  So we went to Ace Hardware the next day and bought a basic 18” black kettle to cook on for our vacation week.  It performed wonderfully and I gave it to my stepson to take home after the week was done.  He’s kept it for these 5 years and during that time got engaged, married, moved 3 times and just had a daughter.  I gave him a 1984 22” brownie for Christmas year before last that he says he’ll keep till he’s gone from this earth.  He’s since decided that one grill is enough for now, so I now have the 18” back.  Cleaned it up today and it shines.  First picture is when it was new with the rusted out kettle in the background.

Welcome home, little one.  :)

Sounds like it has earned a good home and a little TLC.
And it has some cool big brothers.

Can't blame your son for being partial to the Brownie :D, but glad this one wasn't kicked to the curb.

Good eye Robert!  The house was called Dunes and Dolphins back then and sits right in front of the house we stayed in this past September.
