New here from Michigan
« on: May 28, 2021, 09:44:13 AM »
My name is Greg and I'm pretty new to Charcoal grilling. I've only used charcoal a few times but bought a 22" Weber Master Touch in Ocean Blue a few days ago. I did an initial burn after assembly then yesterday smoked a whole chicken. I look forward to learning more and improving my grilling and smoking skills.

Here are some pictures of my set up.

Seeking a Black Sequoia I know I know, I'd settle for just the tabbed no leg grill

Thanks @JEBIV and @RRRanger99. I hope to learn more about grilling and smoking meat. The chicken had good flavor but was a tad dry for my taste. Overall I was pretty happy with the outcome though especially for my first time.

Thanks guys. I think the next chicken I do I'll soak in a brine. A friend said he does a vinegar, oil and salt brine about  50/50 on the vinegar and oil and let it soak overnight.

Do you have any suggestions on a brine you like for chicken.

I heated a pre-cooked turkey brest today for 2 1/2 hours and added some Applewood chips to give it a little smoked flavor. It turned out really good.

Hello and welcome from another Greg in Huntsville Alabama!  Love the grill color and the chicken looks really good.  Enjoy your charcoal journey and feel free to reach out with questions for the group.  Friendly folks here always willing to help.

Brining is a good thing to do with chicken and Turkey.  There are plenty of recipes for brining on the internet.  Experiment with them and you will find one that suits your tastes.
