Grill grates
« on: January 28, 2021, 02:38:59 PM »
I have a vintage grill with the original grates I’m wanting to put inside my office.  I am having trouble getting the smoke smell out of them.  Any suggestions on how to do this?   I’m not wanting to buy new ones.

Spray the grate with oven cleaner and put it in a heavy duty plastic bag overnight.  Rinse very thoroughly.

Or.  Build a fire over your whole charcoal grate and get it rip roaring hot and scrape thoroughly.

Put the grate in a black, plastic trash bag, pour in 4-5 cups of household ammonia and seal up tight.  Let that sit, or better yet put it in the sun for a couple days and wipe/rinse them clean.  Ammonia can be bought just about anywhere for $1 a gallon.  Do this for your oven and gas stove irons too.
