I was alerted by
@Firemunkee (thank you again) about Smokefire EX4 listed on Craigslist 5 miles away from me. It was a local scrapper that was selling it as-is for $190. I went and took a look at it and was able to get it for $170 including the cover and manual. It was missing the meat probe but I have 4 already.
I talked to the hardware store it was scrapped from and it was a demo unit. They kept having an auger jam. The replaced the auger chute assembly and still had issues and trashed it.
I got it home and plugged it in and it fired up. I have to admit that it seems strange plugging it in... The auger was dropping pellets everywhere but the burner bowl. That is when I noticed the feed ramp was blocking the auger. I removed two screws, positioned the feed ramp correctly set it to 350 and ran it for 2 hours, then I ramped it up to 600 and burned through all the pellets that were left for about an hour. It only got to 550 before I ran out of pellets.
I gave it a good clean out and just bought 40 lbs of pellets. We shall see if it continues to function.
