I never would have thought I’d find a Copper Red Mist (stupid retinas) SSP for 50 bucks, yet here we are.

She needs a few parts and some TLC, but she’s already beautiful.

What size propane bottle do I want?  And does the Weber hose/regulator P/N 74237 actually connect a large propane bottle to my burner?

Your ssp should have came with the quick connect regulator with the air chuck end. The 74237 is the small twist on bottle one for the newer performers.

The original regulator will work with an adapter on an exchange tank you can get an adapter from the hardware store for like $10. You would then need to slide the burner tube back a bit to create slack that allows the tank to sit on the ground.

If you had to get the new 74237 it would need an adapter also but it is connected to a hose that solves the need for slack plus some.

Yeah, if it were that simple I wouldn’t have had to ask...

I have the angle fitting that plugs into the burner tube, and about a foot of hose attached to that, but it got torn or cut off short of the regulator. I was hoping that Weber might sell a single piece that would replace my hose, even if it cost a couple of bucks more than another option.

If all I need to do is get a tank hose with a regulator and attach the angle fitting to that, I can probably handle that.

No worries. You never know what somebody’s thinking just from a couple of forum posts.

Will a standard low pressure regulator work? Or am I better off getting an adjustable one?

So Weber does have a single part number that would be everything I need to hook up a 20 lb propane bottle, but it's $113!  If anybody's curious, it's part number 62642.

Considering that I have everything downstream from the hose intact on my grill, I think I'll just get a short stainless-clad hose with a bottle connection and adjustable regulator on one end, and a 3/8" flare fitting on the other end.  The only things the Weber part has that I wouldn't would be the ideal pressure setting dialed into the design of the regulator, and the shut off valve in line with the hose.  From there, it's easy enough to find a 3/8 flare to 1/8 NPT male adapter to screw into the elbow that I already have. 

And I'll resign myself to not being able to use the slick little bottle mount that's on the RH front leg of the grill cart.  Maybe I'll have a use for the Weber propane tank cover after all...
