What are people using as a pizza oven?
« on: August 26, 2020, 12:27:08 PM »
I am looking forward to using my 22 as a pizza oven but do not per say want to spend $100+ on a pizza attachment. What are you using and is it worth it. I am not afraid to fabricate something.

Thanks!

This is an easy inexpensive way to do kettle pizza.  It requires 2 firebricks and a pizza pan. You will not have to mod your kettle or buy a kit with this method.  But if you can find a Pizzaque or a Kettle Pizza at discount somewhere, they are great.

I don't think I could cut a lid unless it had a dent. I was thinking fabricating something like the pizza kettle or pizzaque using stainless.

@nek.93
I use pieces of fire brick sitting on the cook grate. On my 18 it brings it right to the bottom of the opening

@Krawtschenko
Cutting into a lid is a liberating experience

There are usually plenty of beaters out there to make you not feel so guilty

Agreed, I I had a spare lid I could definitely cut away!

@nel.93 One easy way to raise your stone is to raise your grate with SS screws. Just requires a little drilling.  I used four screws with lock washers and nuts on mine.

If you have a spare grate just do a raised grate mode with some bolts, washers, and nuts.  If you need it to be secured you could always bolt it to the lower grate temporarily.

This kettle was actually picked up with no grates and lid bent a lil bit out of shape, so I had this in mind when I got it. Beings this will mostly be used for pizzas, was brainstorming a way to mount a stone in there without a  cooking grate since it was missing when I bought it. But I may as well just pick a grate up and space it up on some bricks like was mentioned...

For what it's worth,  I set my stone on three balls of aluminum foil. Works for me.

The pizza que uses steel straps in a v shapes on opposite sides to hold the stone, inbet something similar would work on the kettle.

Edit...This video shows assembly, you can see clearly what i described poorly.

Seeing that photo kind of makes me want to make a custom "C" shaped basket for pizza cooks.  I have some spare weber baskets I might just have to disassemble and see what I can come up with.

I have the pizza cue as well. I had a coupon for Home Depot and ordered it online. It makes a great pie. It does use a lot of charcoal and the chicken wire center seems a little flimsy but no issues with it. Very happy with the purchase
