Cook time on 18” vs. 22” kettle
« on: March 17, 2020, 10:49:46 AM »
So I used my 18” kettle for the first time the other day to do a loin roast and was shocked at the little time it took to getter done!

So my question is is the 18” more efficient to cook with cutting cooking time down as opposed to the 22.5” kettle? Please explain your opinion.

22.5” Master Touch(smoke)
18” Origional(black)
18” Jumbo Joe(black)
14” Smokey Joe Gold(black)

Cook time is impacted by cooking temperature, the type of meat, and the thickness of the meat.  The weather conditions matter as well if you’re cooking outside.

Another factor is briquette usage.  How many briquettes did you use?  Weber recommends using 50 briquettes when cooking indirect on a 22" kettle and only 32 briquettes when using an 18".

Would be interested to know what your temps were - if monitored.

Highest temp was around 275 to 300F and took about an hour and a half with a full chimney of Kingsford Competition briquettes.

Temps outside were around 40F.

No explanation then...... I’m looking forward to a cook on my first 18.  Will be fun to compare to my 22 experiences.
