Best I can do is a my post from 2017. Never been able to duplicate the glowing red metal since this night.

Last year I found this kettle on the beach of a beach house we rented last year.

We rented the same beach house this year and this is what it looks like after being used as a fire pit for one year.

Now this is a color change.

Kinda creepy as it looked like it was getting ready to have a thermal nuclear meltdown.

That'll still cook - it's a GnS now - Glow & Sear  Perfect for caveman steaks. Send it to me and I'll prove it.

Not a weber fire pit, but it's raised off the ground properly!

Very cool. Do the ashes drop down or is that just a shelf / heat deflector?

I love fall. Here’s my diy rig. It’s a seat machine. I use a Weber lid on really thick cuts of steak to trap some heat in.

It's just a shelf, but it's been moonlighting as an ash catcher as the sides have warped over the years due to the heat and frequent use. Luckily, the corners are perfectly intact and support the tray where the wood/coals sit. Some nights, we get enough coals falling to the shelf from the sides that we essentially get a double fire.

I’ve never seen a Weber fire pit in person.  I don’t know if they were sold here and if they were, they’re certainly rare.  So, I have a Landman fire pit instead and it’s worked well.
