26 ash sweeps
« on: August 04, 2019, 02:35:59 AM »
Picked up a dual code '13 26er. Cleaned it darn near spotless but the ash sweeps are rough to move after disassembly and scrubbing all the gunk off.

Are SS available? Is #63046 the part I want or is there a better one? Any good reason I shouldn't order the SS 22" sweeps #90720 if I can't get SS for my 26"?

@PotsieWeber might be able to chime in on this.  I consider him my SS sweeps expert.  I believe there were some SS sweeps on the 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen Performers, but I am not 100% sure that the 26" uses the same sweeps or not.  I could see weber making them bigger because it is a bigger kettle or I could easily see Weber trying to reuse parts to keep costs down.  They might not even manufacture and sell the SS sweeps anymore meaning that your only option would be a donor kettle.

From what little research I've done I can order the 90720 SS sweeps from the 22" kettle and use those. The drawback is I believe around 2009 Weber started making longer sweeps specifically for the 26" kettle. The 22" sweeps will from what I've read leave a decent amount of ash unswept. The question is then if any of the longer sweeps designed for the 26" are made from SS. If no, then I'll probably order the replacement 26" and take care of them.

I only know about what are some of the kettles to buy, just to steal the SS 22" sweeps out of.   ;D
