Picked Up This Genesis 1000
« on: May 15, 2019, 03:06:07 PM »
The grates are roached, the drip pan holder is rusty, the wood needs freshening up, the wheels are cracked and faded and she's filthy.  Other than that she's got real nice bones as @JEBIV told me.

I don't want to spend alot, what are people using for replacement grates? I'm thinking after a deep cleaning and possible high heat black for the cookbox and sides and new grease catcher assembly I may call it a day.

Yup, Joe is right.
She's got good bones.
I used weber stainless steel grates on my restore that I picked up at the factory store on clearance. 7639 I think is the number. Heavy rods like the newer ones use.
Be careful with the crossover tube when disassembling the burners, they get brittle. Also don't try to remove the screws on the left end of the burner tubes either. They stay in the cookbox and the burner tubes slide out from under them.

I bought a set of Uniflasy cast iron grates for a grill I sold to a coworker last year and I was pleasantly surprised by their quality.  Decent reviews on Amazon too:
