When is the end of barbeque season? Midwest???
« on: October 21, 2018, 11:06:17 PM »
I know, I know, It never ends. But I have a serious question. At what time of the season should I start putting things away for the winter?

My wife and I have made a serious investment this summer on some nice things.

Replaced our ten year old Summit four burner.
Replaced our nine year old WSM 18" ( gave it to my son )
I had to buy an LE red kettle. Just beautiful!!
Acquired an awesome red mist SSP.
My Mom's old SJP
A free craigslist Genesis silver B with bad cooking grates
And a Char-Broil upright box smoker that can't cook in the wind

So what would you cook on or leave out all winter???

I'm real bad at making decisions but the snow will fly real soon.

How do you guys approach winter?

I usually keep just a normal black 22 in on the back deck all year long , I don’t cover it . It was free. And because I only use a kettle for all my low and slow smokes I don’t have to worry about storing a smoker . Rest of the Weber’s are in the garage . While the Ol black gets a work out all winter long !

I leave my covered gen 3 performer on the patio all winter. All the rest are in the shed, where I can still get at them if I need to.

Yeah I've got my eyes open for a real workhorse kettle for the winter. But then I suspect I would fall in love with that one also.

I really abused my first E series Summit grill. For ten years it sat out all year long, mostly uncovered. Since I got a new one I've realized I want to take care of this stuff the best I can.

I was just curious what date grillers usually wrap things up for the season.

I have Weber q1200 that I keep on the patio with a cover. I can go all winter on a 20lb tank of propane. Great little grill once you learn how to use it.

My grills and smokers live on my covered patio all year long...In the winter I set up a wind break so that I can slow down the Northerly Kansas winds...The stick burner sits in the weather all the time...The only grills with covers are my OTG with the rotisserie and the 14" WSM because they don't get used that much...My green griller with the CI grates and my Vortex grill are in constant use and just have to deal with the abuse...The stick burner gets more use in the winter than it does in the summer so a little wind relief is all I can hope for...

My vote is to leave whichever one is your work horse out and invest in a cover. If your not going to grill much in the harsh winter but you want a quick pre heat and cook then keep one of your gassers out. If you have a nice weekend during the winter you can always wheel another one outside to enjoy.
Mine is a standard gen 3 performer. It’s handles most of the cooks year round, but is covered

I'll wrap it up when they pry the spatula out of my cold, frozen fingers.  And we don't really have much of a winter in SW MO.  I keep mine on the deck, covered.

My performer is the winter workhorse. The rest of the vintage kettles are in the shed or garage for the winter.

Grilling Season is just starting here in Arizona.  I almost didn't sweat when grilling wings tonight!

Rain, sleet, snow, or heat. All cookers, and projects are outside uncovered. Now don’t get me wrong... I do have a lot put away but anything I cook on is outside uncovered year round.

My wife use to get embarrassed by my hats but now she shakes her head and laughs. [emoji23]

I'm good with the hat. It's those overalls that have me worried. :o
