Stainless wingnut replacement options on Smokey Joe
« on: August 07, 2018, 07:37:17 AM »
So I've purchased some stainless wingnuts (1/4" 20)and installed them on my smokey joe, but I find they are much smaller in diameter than the Weber ones.  This makes the charcoal grate slide around inside the bowl and doesn't allow it to rest on the wingnuts because they are too small.

Anyone know the correct place/size to get these bigger wingnuts?

Never given it much thought.

You might try Grainger supply if there is one near you.

Also Amazon has Hillman washered XL wing nuts, which should be plenty big enough, but they come in a pack of 50 for $12.75.

Did you place a washer under the wingnut?  It should rise it up just a bit & maybe that will be enough.

I do have a washer there, but the diameter of the wingnut is smaller, so the coal grate does not rest on the edge of the wingnut which I don't like.  The grate isn't very stable this way.

IIRC The SJ wingnuts are stamped.
This would allow Weber to create one
with large enough ears to support the grate.

Go with SS bolts and washers and get some extra Weber nuts.
