Question about the q200 and the porcelain grates
« on: July 26, 2018, 02:18:53 PM »
How long does it usually take to heat up the porcelain grates in order to sear steak?
It seems like the thermometer may need to be replaced because it didn’t move past 200 degrees on the highest setting on the dial. This is with the propane cylinder.

Thank you in advance.

It is indeed a characteristic of worn out bimetal thermometers that they fail to read higher temps. Since the 200 is an older model, it could be time to replace the lid thermo.

But you can always run a cheap test by placing an oven thermometer on the grate and checking it every 5 minutes to see what's happening.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch
