Performer and One-Touch Platinum: An observation
« on: July 28, 2018, 11:05:56 AM »

I have had this Gen2 performer for three years.

The lower wire cage is situated like this.
And, it has to be in order for the charcoal storage bin to sit properly.

About a month ago, I got my hands on a 18" One-Touch Platinum (OTP) courtesy of @greenweb .

I first thought that it was originally assembled wrong, so I cleaned it up and assembled it "correctly" ... At least I thought I did.

I then recalled that member, @oldivers had rescued a NIB 18" OTP earlier this year.

He was kind and gracious enough to send me a PDF regarding the assembly of a OTP.

According to the above, it was originally assembled correctly.  Huh ...

I believe the OTPs were made available before the Gen2 performers were made available by 4-5 years <<< guessing.

When Weber re-designed the performer (SS to Gen2), they decided to re-configure the wire mesh on the bottom.

Just wondering why?  I am leaving my 18" OTP this way as I prefer it.

Q: How do you know something is bull$h!t?
A: When you are not allowed to question it.

The current performer with fold down table is configured the same way as the OTP.  If I had to guess it’s in this orientation to provide more storage (ie try fitting a chimney under there).
