Painted Plastic Performer Table
« on: May 26, 2013, 08:11:38 AM »

I picked up this 2 year old Performer yesterday, got a great deal on it .

It was really dirty and I figured a quick cleaning would have it ready for sale , but unfortunately the plastic side table was stained with grease that would not come off by hand. Decision time ,  I grabbed my sander and in 5 minutes removed the stained surface , I washed off the dust and allowed to dry . I ran to Ace and found this fusion plastic paint in a metallic color , sprayed the piece and baked in front my shop heater while I washed the rest of the unit . It came out really nice the wife loves it and wanted to keep it ???? Go figure lol

If you keep it make sure to give us some updates about how that paint holds up. That would be a good fix for a lot of us when those things get dinged up or stained.

Nice work on that table..  How did it look after you sanded it? Could it have been possibly polished to restore the finsih?  8)

Wonder how it would have looked with that textured stuff they sell that mimics the OE top? Or a hammered metal finish.

Here's the before , shot by the owner before I got it, you can see the stains even in the bad pic. Whatever was on there soaked in deep and even after I sanded it still left an outline.

I used a 320 grit,  the material is soft and sands easily it takes paint well.

And this stuff coats well. I have used this product for a few other items it seems to stand up .

What year is that with the thermometer mounted in the lid? My 05 isn't lid mounted, and the new ones show the thermostat mounted by the propane tank. (and weber says they are 2010-2013) I think that way of mounting makes it look so much better.

<edit> is that a bike lock on it? lol

Thermostat mounted by the propane tank? Please show us..
Also, in 2010 or 11 they changed the front face palte from true stainless to a painted one.
The SS is so much niser looking. Webe also made the plastic table in a black-ish color.
It looks better than the grey. I hear you cna put mineral oil on them to keep them looking nice.
Either way, you can't put a hot pan on them like the older ss tables. Weber got cheaper, thats for sure. The Performer is still one of the best grills for the job.  8)

Nevermind, it is a cook timer, not a thermometer.
