Rust on kettle?

My kettle is about 2 months old and it appears to be rust on the handle and it's always stored in it's cover is this rust and if so what do I do? Can I remove it?

Grab a green scrubby and carefully take out the rust, then add oil.

I use canola cooking oil like seasoning my cast iron.
Looking for: Red MBH 26"(The Aristocrat), Chestnut-coppertone (The Estate), Glen-blue (The Imperial), and The Plainsman.
