How do you test temp during slow cooks..
« on: April 20, 2018, 09:46:12 AM »
So just found out you need to drill whole in WEBER MASTER TOUCH KETTLE, to use lets say Thermopro t20.  Really dont want to drill and make seal---soooo , do you just use a portable pens to test doneness? is there any other way to use wireless without drilling?

would you just put it under lid? if so --does smoke and heat fluctuations happen cause there is a gap?

Hi, i usually put two probes in the vent out, i put one on the grate for more temperature accuracy and the other in the meat. Hope it helps.

You can run the wires up through the bottom vents. Generally for a low n slow cook there will enough room for your bottom vents to be cracked and have a wire run through it without problem. I prefer that to running through the lid vent cause I don’t like having to mess with it all when taking the lid off and you can also run it between the lid and bowl without much fuss. Just make sure not to pinch the wires.

What everyone else said. No need to drill holes.

I've been running my probe wires in between the lid and the base with no cutting, no drilling, and no problems for over a decade.  (Lid & barrel on the WSM.)

Never understood all the fuss . . .

It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch
