Thanks for the suggestion.

It will clean up nicely, you'll see.  Great little grill. I put a 4-hole top grate from a 22" kettle on the bottom of mine; great air flow and control with all three vent locations in the lower bowl.

Cook grate P/N 66913, Charcoal grate P/N 7440, get the cook grate while weber still has them I'm willing to bet when this batch runs out they wont get any more made.

Filibuster, thank you for the updated part number. Secured  a new cooking grate, and charcoal grate. Drive out to Palatine and picked them up direct... 😈👍  I also picked up some stainless steel hardware to reattach the legs.

Ok, short of a new handle, she is done. New grates, and new stainless steel bolts and washers and wing nuts for the  legs. She's not perfect,  but should be a hell of a cooker. Here it is from start to finish.

Damn! I never would have imagined it would clean up that well. Hell of a free score brother.

You've got it looking in all its glory (almost). Grab some acorn nuts and throw away those wing nuts, much cleaner look. Order a handle from zavod44 they are badass. I've got a special order he's working on, hey zavod44 send me a pic so I can perv them when they are on their way, LOL.

Great clean up! It looks so much better now.

I have two of these and really enjoy them for camp and beach cooking. Whoever mentioned the internal pan before is correct, it isn't part of that grill.

The airflow through the side vents can get a bit tricky, but I've learned a few tricks that seem to work well:
- If cooking direct with the lid off (burgers, etc) then go ahead and open either or both vents. It doesn't really matter so much.
- If cooking indirect then prepare coals on half of the grill against one vent. Completely close the opposite vent and do all intake adjustments with the vent next to the coals. I'll also position the lid vent over the indirect portion so the airflow comes through the bottom vent, across the coals, across the food, and out the top.

cbpeck, thanks for the cooking pointers, I'll try them out here real soon. I'm planning on breaking it in with some stuffed bell peppers.  I will have to admit,  looking back at the after pics, none show the battle scar on the lid. Kinda makes me look like some sort of wizard. The battle scar is of course still there, but I did pop out most of the dent.

... Whoever mentioned the internal pan before is correct, it isn't part of that grill. ....

Well, it sorta is actually. As kettlebb said, it didn't come with U.S. versions.

It was designed as an internal ash pan for this model. Weber later repurposed it when they realized it also works as an internal heat shield / ash pan for the 14.5" WSM.
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch
