Don't Be Me
« on: October 16, 2017, 06:10:49 PM »
While cooking a skirt steak on my kettle and making french fries in a cast iron pan inside I got distracted. The steak was not getting cooked the way I wanted it. I focused my energy on the steak... big mistake.... a fire started in my kitchen on the stove top... 2 feet high... once I got  steak off, I turned around. FIRE!! ! Is that  real? was my first reaction... yep, it was. I left the perfectly cooked steak and ran to the kitchen to see what I could do. After working in numerous restaurants I knew better than to try and put it out with water. I was able to get it out and called 911... I was able to save my home, saved the steak... but f'd up royally... don't be me... pay attention to oil. DON'T LEAVE IT UN ATTENDED!!! EVER!!! I'm out of work for the next month as I recieved 3rd degree burns on my hands and arms... thankfully no one died...

DONT BE ME!!!! LEARN FROM MY ALMOST TRAGIC SITUATION!!!!

Grill on my friends. . . Just be smarter than I...

You’re a smart man. You acted appropriately instead of panic and fluster. Could have been worse and praise God it wasn’t. Prayers for a quick recovery and for a good encounter with the insurance company.

Dry towel ( not best option) and a sheet pan... and got it off the stove into the sink.

Glad it didn't end up worse than that.  Take care of that hand and heal fast! It is a good reminder to everyone that you should never get complacent when cooking with oil.

Holy crap Jason! Back from helping out in PR and now this? Take it easy out there!
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Again, not a problem! You've got bigger issues this week.

Damn!
I'm glad that you got the fire stopped, but I'm sorry that you got hurt.
I hope the rest of your week goes better!
