First GA cook
« on: August 31, 2017, 07:14:21 PM »
Minion method... first cook on my go anywhere. The cook held between 285 and 300 for an hour and a half using kingsford (it was what I had when I did my go anywhere build out) and hickory. Bird was pulled at an IT of 162° and rested. Sliced and served with a bacon bleu chees salad. Simple easy and delicious.

Awesome cook Matt!  I thought it was really cool for you to do this cook on your GA that you've never cooked on before.  Kind of leveled the playing field a little bit!  LOL.

Great cook and thanks for the inspiration. How old is that GA? Also, did you cut the grill great in half or buy it like that?

It's  a newer GA (I found it new in box at a garage sale for 15$) with handles off of older kettles I've refurbished and replaced with Zav handles. Yes, I cut the grate to fit sideways in tbe bottom to allow for more storage. The cut was made with bolt cutters.

I've had this built out for a few months and never cooked on it prior to this cook... it's cleaned up again and refilled with charcoal and sits behind the passenger seat in my truck, I'm always ready to get down now.

That's badass!  I have two projects in my office right now at work that I'm trying to figure out how to tell Mama about.  Once I get over that hump, I'm getting one.

Unless I see a killer deal.  Then it will put in que with the others in my office.
