I bought the unknown BBQ hinge a while back and it just sat on my workbench collecting dust.  Today I found the time. Behold...

How stable is this setup? If the top is positioned so that the hinge is between the legs, rather than directly over a leg, and the WSM is empty (admittedly a worst-case scenario), will it tend to turn over when the top is opened?

I've found, with mine, that as long you have the hinge over one of the legs, it stays pretty stable.

Ok so that pic is of my wsm with Nothing in it, no coal, no coal ring, no grates or water pan. Plus I added wheels which raises center of gravity.  Right now , like that it won't tip when aligned with leg. But it's close. Practically speaking I don't imagine it's a problem.

I've looked at these before and wondered, so thanks for the review! Out of curiosity, what's the small piece of duct tape for?

They are made specifically for the WSMs.  The OTP from about 5 years ago was a 22" kettle with a unique lid that would work similarly, but it wasn't very popular.

Not true. They also make them for kettles: http://unknownbbq.com/22-5-weber-kettle-lid-hinge/

Duct tape helped during installation. Not there anymore.
