Small Vortex

How tall is the small Vortex. I have a medium in my 22 inch kettle I believe but my wok sets right on top of the vortex. I need one shorter.

Why not try the baskets?

I don't like the side holes. I want the heat to go up.

Have you used the baskets?  I would say all of the heat goes up. Plenty of high heat directly above for whatever your cooking.

No I have not tried those maybe one day I will.
The wok is designed with a thick Center bottom that's for heating and cooking and the sides are designed to actually hold the food up off the bottom for it doesn't get scorched.  The way the vortex works it puts that Center column of fire right at the bottom of the wok where it needs to be the real hot.

True that.  My spun carbon steel I think is even thickness, but that is how woks are designed to work.

Are you trying to set a wok in the BGS grate?  I find that unfortunately, it sits too low for anything.

I use a wok ring sitting on a disposable grate over the vortex.  It works really well.

Theres some pics here with the vortex flame licking up the sside of the wok and the vortex itself glowing red:

When we moved 3 years ago, some how my wok ring got put into a box somewhere out on the garage and I haven't been able to find it. So.... Putting the wok on the great worked good with a pile of coals in the middle. I was just hoping I'd find something. I'll have to make me a vortex of of a bowl or something.
Thanks
