Prototype charcoal basket
« on: September 20, 2017, 02:16:40 PM »
It ain't pretty but it worked great.  Three baskets, the top one has the bottom folded into one below and wired together. The third just pushed up against stacked ones.  Fill all three baskets and let rip.  My goal is to concentrate the heat up the back at about the same level as the pizza stone/steel.  It worked really well but needs a few more tweaks. Also remembered to close the bottom vents this time to get even more convection action.

Cheese and veggie deer burger special.

Finished cheese.  I was too hungry to take pics of the other.

Creative setup. Looks like it worked pretty well. Good idea!

I have actually thought about doing that stacking too. But was thinking more about using 4 baskets (2 stacked) slightly offset to make a more pyramid shape in the center for a vortex type effect.

That sounds like a good plan for
Pizza

Dan, did you close the bottom vents off completely?

@Bob BQ Yep, closed all the way once the coals were all lit.  The real pizza ovens I've seen only have the front open, so I thought I'd give it try and it seems to have worked.

That's very clever and a neat (as in "cool" and neat as in "tidy") way to do it.

This weekend i'll get out the big old baskets I had welded up.  maybe that adjustable grate.
